Transit Windsor is the main transit provider for the residents of the Windsor, Lasalle and Tecumseh Ontario. Transit Windsor also connects with DDOT and SMART as well as the Detroit People Mover at the Rosa Parks Transit Terminal in Detroit, Michigan.

History

Transit Windsor was created on November 1st, 1977 after being renamed from Sandwich, Windsor & Amherstburg Railway Company which had been operating since 1872. Between 1872 and 1939, service was provided by horse-drawn streetcars until 1920, followed by electric streetcars until 1939.

Starting in 1940, Sandwich, Windsor & Amherstburg Railway Company started running Ford and Twincoach buses and beginning in 1977 started running more conventional buses like the GM New Look and GM Highway Coaches. Transit Windsor continued to buy standard transit buses from different companies afterwards.
